An arboretum within its landscape…

Initially a pastoral valley that had been abandoned for over 40 years, the arboretum as we know it today was recovered and nurtured into a unique example of a gardened landscape that extols the natural and agricultural spirit of its setting.

Classed remarkable garden

Arboretum de la Sedelle was awarded the title “Jardin Remarquable” by the Minister of Culture and Communication in 2005.

This label ensures a certain quality of garden under strict criteria such as the efforts made on their presentation, their public reception and their botanical or historical interest

Seasonal plant fair

The association “Les Jardins de la Sedelle” organises two annual weekend plant fairs at the Arboretum.

The spring fair is in May and the autumn fair in October. These plant fairs have become a regular rendezvous for plant and nature lovers of the region.

Next plant fair 14 & 15 october 2023

National maple collection

The Arboretum de la Sedelle has a considerable collection of Maples accredited by the CCVS.

Natural areas

A natural habitat is an ecological or environmental area where a specific species or community of species live. The development and conservation of the natural habitats within the arboretum is essential to its management. These areas are the reserves of biodiversity of the site and are the spaces that inspire the garden.

The birds

Due to the diversity of the natural habitats at the arboretum we have a rich bird list with 50 nesting species. Once a year we organise a bird outing with a local ornithologist.

The butterflies

In Limousin 118 species of Rhopalocera (day butterflies) are currently known, at the arboretum we identified 39 species in 2019.
