EXHIBITION — Trees by Pierre FEUILLATRE

After earning a baccalaureate in applied arts in Cholet, and while simultaneously studying set decoration for cinema and theatre in Nantes, Pierre FEUILLATRE gradually developed a personal artistic practice. Initially amateur, he has been working professionally since December 2020.

For nearly ten years, his pictorial work evolved within a narrative and colourful universe, created in acrylic on canvas and deeply influenced by the imagery and aesthetics of the films that shaped him.

In 2019, following several years of reflection on reducing his ecological footprint, he decided to incorporate an eco-responsible, bio-based and minimalist approach into his artistic practice. This shift marked a decisive turning point in his work, both aesthetically and conceptually.

His universe is now built around three fundamental elements. The first is the tool: the black felt-tip pen, which allows him to fully explore his taste for detail, moving beyond the constraints of painting while offering great freedom of creation and mobility. The second is the medium: paper, considered as a noble material, rooted in French artisanal expertise, and chosen with particular attention to its composition, its recycled origin and its recyclability. Finally, the third element is the subject: trees, which emerged naturally, nourished by his childhood between Nantes and Angers, between the hedged landscapes of Vendée and the Loire Valley.

Through these three elements, the artist develops a sensitive and refined world, inhabited by leaning trees, roots and stumps. Trees regarded as beings in their own right, carrying a singular beauty, a story of their own, and an almost human identity.
